==============================================================================

The Champlain’s Folly Cyclosportif is an all-new cycling event in the Ottawa Valley that will introduce riders to some of the most scenic and historic parts of Eastern Ontario, and raise funds for the Ottawa Velodrome Project, which aims to build an indoor velodrome in Ottawa.

Champlain’s Folly will set off from Arnprior on Sunday, July 14, one day after the Ottawa Bicycle Club Grand Prix event in Gatineau Park. Riders will enjoy a choice of three scenic and challenging routes of 32 km, 85 km and 130/160 km  (the 160k includes an extra loop option) northwest along the Ottawa River, in an area first charted by famed French explorer, Samuel de Champlain, in 1613. In this very region Champlain reputedly lost his astrolabe while scrambling along a portage route in his quest for a route to China — Champlain’s Folly indeed!

It took 254 years for Champlain’s astrolabe to be found, but in just a few hours Champlain’s Folly participants will discover some of the finest — and least-known — cycling roads in Ontario in a safe, well-supported event. The first 500 registered riders will guaranteed to receive a bag of goodies (including custom socks and bottle), there will be feeding stations regularly spaced along the well-marked routes, emergency support in case anyone gets into difficulty, and participants can swap riding stories at the post-event meal (included).

Participants will have the opportunity to peruse an expo area showcasing vintage and custom bicycles from local collectors and builders, along with cycling products from a variety of supporters from the cycling industry. In addition, live music will be provided to enrich the post-ride experience.

Each year, there are dozens of cycling events that help raise funds for a wide range of charitable causes. The Champlain’s Folly Cyclosportif is intended to help cyclists raise funds for a very important cycling initiative: the construction of an indoor velodrome in the Ottawa area. This velodrome will serve the cycling community as a whole by providing a safe place for initiation, development and training for cyclists of all levels, 12 months a year.

All route prices INCLUDE HST. An online transaction fee will be applied at checkout (3.9% + $3.28 per registration). Please note that only one transaction can be processed at a time, associated with one unique email address, due to technical and legal constraints (this means multiple entries have to be associated with multiple email addresses). We apologize for any inconvenience, and hope to remedy this for 2014. Every entry includes a Champlain's Folly water bottle and pair of Champlain's Folly cycling socks.

Please print, fill out, and hand in your waiver at registration to speed line-up times.

All the proceeds from the Champlain’s Folly Cyclosportif will go to the Ottawa Velodrome Project, the not-for-profit corporation that has been set up to create an indoor velodrome.

Your entry into Champlain's Foly is non-refundable. You do have the option of transferring your entry to another rider. Please ensure that the new rider receives your confirmation email. We'll process the transfer at check-in, but any monetary transaction is between you and the rider that you are transferring your entry to.

Expo

Costumes

Being an historically inspired event, we invite participants of the 32km Azure route to dress for the occasion in period garb, fairy wings, or whatever costume that takes your fancy! This is an opportunity to have fun with costuming, always popular with the kids. This is purely optional, no pressure!
